The “it” effectively captures 99% of airborne particles .1 microns and larger, including dust, pollen, pet dander, bacteria, viruses, and allergens. And it’s also available with a VOC Wrap to adsorb chemicals, gases, and VOCs.
The Austin Air HealthMate® uses more combined filter material than any other portable air purifier on the market with 60 sq. ft. of true, medical grade HEPA proven to remove up to 99% of all airborne contaminants down to 0.1 microns. This includes viruses, bacteria, dust, dander, spores, and allergens. It also uses up to 15 lbs. of a unique activated carbon/zeolite blend to adsorb mycotoxins, chemicals, gases, and odors.
The Austin Air Healthmate Plus® uses the same amount of combined filter material as the HealthMate®. However, the activated carbon used in the HealthMate Plus® is impregnated with potassium iodide for better adsorption of certain chemicals, such as formaldehyde. This broad-spectrum adsorption makes the HealthMate Plus the best choice for those exposed to wildfire smoke or chemical disasters.

Both the Austin Air HealthMate and HealthMate Plus use a combination of activated carbon, zeolite, and medical grade HEPA in their filters. However, the HealthMate Plus uses an activated carbon that is impregnated with potassium iodide, which is designed for better adsorption of specific chemicals such as formaldehyde. Therefore, the HealthMate Plus may be a better option for those exposed to wildfire smoke or chemical disasters.
The difference is their size! The standard HealthMate and HealthMate Plus air purifiers are 23 inches tall, 14 inches wide, weighing 47 lbs. The Junior air purifiers are 16.5 inches tall, 11 inches wide, weighing approximately 21 lbs.
The standard HealthMate and HealthMate Plus air purifiers both have 60 sq. feet of true medical grade HEPA and up to 15 lbs. of the activated carbon and zeolite blend. The HealthMate and HealthMate Plus Junior air purifiers have 30 sq. ft. of true medical grade HEPA and over 6.5 lbs. of the activated carbon and zeolite blend.
All HealthMate air purifiers have 4 stages of filtration but the Junior units are designed for smaller spaces such as nurseries, bathrooms, and home offices.
Austin Air now offers “Junior” versions of the HealthMate Series. These units were designed specifically for smaller spaces such as nurseries, small bedrooms, home offices, bathrooms, and small apartments. The HealthMate Junior and the HealthMate Plus Junior use the same type of filter material (HEPA/carbon/zeolite), however, they are nearly half the size of the standard units making them a convenient option for those living in small apartments or wanting cleaner air in smaller environments.
